Really, when bike riding is all about portability, why are most pumps so bulky? This fits the bill (and my hand) nicely. I tossed it into my frame bag and gladly removed my big Schwinn pump from the tube.You might not want to rely on this as your only pump -- unfortunately small size means sacrificing power in pumping, so I'm holding onto the Schwinn for pre-ride preparations -- but out on the road it will get the job done, just with a little extra elbow grease. The design is clever, sliding the body off to create the handle, and pumping is comfortable (if not as effective as larger units). My only issue is with changing the valve between Presta and Schrader. The instructions are in German (if in fact there are any to accomplish this), so it's essentially trial and error, but obviously not impossible. Tiny and compact, yet so powerful. It says the max is 87 psi but I believe it's underrated. My tires are 700x28c so I don't need much more than 60psi from a hand pump in an emergency but I'm able to get more with just a few strokes. Seriously, I read reviews with people mentioning 100+ strokes with other pumps but it didn't take me more than 20 to get a very satisfying pressure. It fits perfectly on presta valve and no air is lost when unlocking. The quality seems awesome although it's mostly plastic. The Casing is aluminum. I have 2 full length Zefel pumps for my road bikes but wanted something compact for my mountain bike. This is small enough to be protected from getting caught by all the foliage you cruise through on those tight trails. It works on both valve types without having to disassemble and flip over the actuator which is a real plus when you are in the woods with gloves on. The retractable, telescopic handle is not equal to full size pumps but fills tires faster than any small pump I ever used. |
