5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Quality Pump & Works Great, May 7, 2009

This review is from: Lezyne Alloy Floor Drive Bicycle Floor Pump (Sports)
You'd think that a bicycle pump ought to be cheap to buy and a cinch to use... After all, it just has one simple purpose: to fill bike tires with air! Well, unfortunately there are a lot of bad floor pumps in the cycling world - and not just the cheap ones, either.

What can go wrong? Pump cylinders leak air; hoses are sometimes too short; hose chucks fail to grip the tire valve, leak air, or blow off at higher pressures; gauges can be inaccurate; pumping effort can be too high...

And that's not even a comprehensive list.

The Lezyne Alloy Floor Pump is well made, has a long hose with a very secure chuck, sports a decent gauge, and pumps to high pressures without undue strain. Simply put, it's a very competent floor pump that does its job without drama.

For those of you familiar with Silca pumps, this one will remind you of one of their old track pumps. Similar quality (rebuildable, too), similar design. It looks like it will last for... Read more

Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
First off, I'd like to say that I'm on a college student-type budget, and my life revolves around cycling to a large extent. I bike both for fun and transportation, so I take my cycling accessories seriously. I was hesitant to shell out this much money for a tire pump, especially with fairly high rated competitors selling at around $20.

I'm glad I did though, because this pump is pretty fantastic. It's solidly built, and exceptionally easy to use. There's no fussing with presta adapters or those weird flip valve things that some other floor pumps have. There's just a reversible attachment that screws directly to whatever valve you have, that rotates freely so as not to twist the hose. The actual pumping is easy enough as well, much easier than some other pumps I've used. You don't have to worry about the hose popping off your valve while you're pumping away either, because it's screwed on.

I wish I had bought this pump 5 years ago; it would have made my life so... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars The FINEST Floor Pump Made..., June 15, 2010
By
Velocipede (Palm Desert, CA USA) - See all my reviews
My best friend owns a bike shop, and I had the rare opportunity to demo several professional-grade floor pumps. I soon realized its worth paying for a high-end pump such as the Lezyne Air Drive Alloy floor pump with the flippable air chuck. After sampling the closest competitions' floor pumps for a half season - here are my conclusions:

Specialized Airtool Pro - Nice, but only had 140psi max. The air release button was nice for getting exact air pressure, though. Getting super high pressure made the handle very hard to compress. You need to bear down on the handle just to get the final pounds of pressure. Not the Lezyne...

Serfas FP-606 - This dual-stage pump goes to 160psi but the hi-volume/hi-pressure switch was inconveniently located. Also, the short hose made pumping on a stand require a crutch...such as a short stool. Very cheaply made, and the low price reflects that fact too.

Blackburn Air Tower 4 - Bad seals make for a very frustrating pump... Read more
